Numbers show Arizona's Proposition 102 has passed -- same-sex
marriage has now been constitutionally banned in the state. With final
numbers yet to come, voters in the Grand Canyon state have clearly said
no to same-sex unions. Preliminary results show the measure has the backing of more than 56% of voters so far.
Arizonans essentially reversed a 2006 vote against such a measure, ensuring the definition of marriage can never be changed by a judge or the legislature, unless voters undo Prop. 102 with a future amendment. This year's proposition -- unlike 2006's -- didn't include a ban on domestic-partnership benefits or block the potential for civil unions, reasoning which most likely swayed many voters.
Blame the Mormons, says Krysten Sinema, who led the campaign against the proposition. "The Mormon church was very involved and was not in the past," she told Tucson's Arizona Daily Star. "That made a huge difference." (Neal Broverman)

Rather than waste 20 million dollars to support a ban on Gay marriage why doesn’t the Mormon church do something useful like spend it to feed the poor or provide shelter for the homeless. There are so many good uses for that money.
What kind of Christian message does it send when you spend that kind of money on political campaigns while the poor go hungry and the sick can't afford to see a doctor.
Handing 20 million dollars over to television stations for anti gay ads is a big waste of money in a world of suffering.
Besides...I'm sure 20 years from now the Mormons will get another revelation that God finally OK's gay marriages.

Norris, there are so many falsehoods here I really wonder where to begin:
1. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints didn't hand over 20 million dollars for this campaign. Private contributors, many of whom were members of that church and many of whom were not, made the individual choice to give that money.
2. The Church does spend large amounts of money on feeding the poor and housing the homeless. If you're unaware of this, you clearly haven't spent so much as 60 seconds researching the issue. I won't bother to provide links for you, which you could easily find yourself, and which you will ignore due to your obvious disinterest in the truth.
3. Why are you "sure" that the Church will receive a revelation in contravention of its current position? Are you trying to pretend that the revelation of 1978 allowing priesthood for all male members of the Church was a reversal of the Church's position? It wasn't. The Church's position had always been that the priesthood would someday be given to all. Members waited anxiously for that day to come, and most rejoiced when it did.
