10. FILM: Born to Fly: Elizabeth Streb vs. Gravity
Elizabeth Streb, a choreographer and former Out 100 honoree, soars in Born to Fly, a documentary about contemporary dance taken to the limits of gravity and possibility. Dubbed the "Evel Knievel of Dance," Streb orchestrates her Broolyn-based dance company to launch through the air on bungee cords, dangle from great heights, rotate from all angles, and dodge dangerous moving obstacles like cinder blocks in the process. It's a breathless ballet, one that also portrays a woman's struggle to push against her own limitations imposed by age, injury, and gender. Born to Fly premieres in New York at the Film Forum (September 10-16) and in Los Angeles at the Laemmle Noho 7 (September 26-October 2). Watch the trailer below. -- Daniel Reynolds

9. THEATER: Mighty Real: A Fabulous Sylvester Musical
Mighty Real pays homage to the great disco star Sylvester, who provided a soundtrack for gay life in the 1970s and '80s and became an AIDS activist before dying of the disease's complications in 1988. Writer and codirector Anthony Wayne stars as the diva in Mighty Real, which features several of Sylvester's classic songs, including "(You Make Me Feel) Mighty Real," "Dance (Disco Heat)," "Do Ya Wanna Funk," and "You Are My Friend." The show gets its off-Broadway premiere beginning tonight at the Theatre at St. Clement's in New York City; performances are scheduled through October 5. 7. MUSIC: "One More Time,"Nick &Knight
If you thought boy band heartthrobs Nick Carter and Jordan Knight had thrown in the towel on their iconic pop careers, think again. The Backstreet Boys (Carter) and New Kids on the Block (Knight) alumni have teamed up for a new album under the name Nick & Knight and are on a U.S. tour through late November. Nick & Knight's self-titled new album is now available on iTunes, and the video for the first single, "One More Time," is below. -- Scott Ragan

6. THEATER: Cock
When John and his boyfriend take a break from their relationship, John meets the woman of his dreams, and love, lust, and feuds ensue. "People I knew would say they were gay or say they were straight, but had experiences that were the opposite of that," says playwright Michael Bartlett, explaining the inspiration for his work. After winning an Olivier Award in London and having an acclaimed run off-Broadway, Cock makes its West Coast premiere this month, with productions in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. In S.F., performances begin tonight at the New Conservatory Theatre Center's intimate Walker Theatre and continue through October 12. In L.A., Rogue Machine's production opens September 13 and runs through October 19 at Theatre/Theater.

5. BOOK: Soldier of Change
You may know Stephen Snyder-Hill as that guy who got booed at a GOP debate in 2011 when he asked Rick Santorum about LGBT people serving openly in the military. In his memoir, the Iraq War veteran and activist writes about his journey growing up gay in Ohio and his life in the military before, during, and after "don't ask, don't tell." At the end of his first deployment in Iraq, nearly hit by friendly fire, he swore to himself that if he lived, he would start living for himself. -- Michelle Garcia

4. MUSIC: V, Maroon 5
Perennial hit-maker Adam Levine and the boys are back for Maroon 5's fifth studio album, aptly titled V. The Los Angeles-based band continues its "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach to glossy pop-rock, collaborating with Top 40 producers Benny Blanco, Max Martin, and Dr. Luke. Highlights on V include the '70s funk sound of "Sugar," the up-tempo dance vibes of "Maps" and "Feelings," and a clever cover of Marcy Playground's "Sex and Candy." 3. DVD: I'm a Porn Star
Charlie David's documentary I'm a Porn Star (available Tuesday) takes an insightful look at men who appear in adult films. The film follows four well-established stars -- Brent Everett, Colby Jansen, Rocco Reed, and Johnny Rapid -- as they speak candidly about their experiences as sexual icons, show what they're like when the cameras aren't rolling, and grant complete access behind the scenes of their shoots. -- Jase Peeples

2. FILM: Wetlands
There hasn't been a coming-of-age tale quite like Wetlands. The German drama features Helen (Carla Juri), a body fluid-obsessed teen who skateboards, pleasuring herself with vegetables, eschews basic hygiene, and exchanges tampons with her bestie. After struggling with the aftermath of her parents' divorce, Helen forms an unlikely bond with a nurse who cares for her after an accident while shaving her private parts lands her in the hospital. 1. TV: Transparent
In this highly anticipated series on Amazon, indie director Jill Soloway tells the semi-autobiographical story of a family in which a father decides it's time to affirm her gender as a woman. Usually Jeffrey Tambor will make you laugh, but this performance will definitely warm your heart. -- Michelle Garcia
